Windows XP supports NTFS (New type file system) file system beside the old FAT32 and FAT file system. Windows uses this file for any operation involving hardware interaction. The file kernel32.dll located in C:\windows\system32 folder (considering Windows is installed on C drive) consists of the core kernel of Windows XP operating system.
